When it comes to reading to kids the list of benefits is endless. Research has shown that not only does reading to your children support cognitive development and improve language skills, but it also prepares them for academic success.
We were introduced to Osmo a few months back and I have to say I’ve been pretty blown away! Not only are they educational, but they’re super fun and I enjoy watching my kids learn and excel.

What is Osmo?
Osmo is a large k-12 supplemental education company. It was founded in 2013 by Pramod Sharma and Jerome Scholler. They set out to create “something awesome that inspires the youngest generation,” while at the same time addressing a concern of many parents about how to have their children interact with technology without losing the value of hands-on play.
Osmo has many interactive games which include: Numbers, Masterpiece, Coding Awbie, Monster, and Pizza Co. These games incorporate unique characters, such as Awbie, Mo the Monster, and the Pizza Co. gang. Osmo provides educational learning through play-based learning and curriculum-based learning experiences.
ALL NEW Osmo Reading Adventure
Osmo launched their BRAND NEW Reading Adventure today! This adventure is an interactive learn-to-read program for children ages 5-7 years. With the help of the cutest characters, Oliver and Nebula, players can unlock the power of story books using physical books, a crystal wand and even their own voice to catch Dreams. My daughter loves the crystal wand and really believes she is magical! Throughout the experience players read aloud using speech recognition technology and play skill-based games to build their reading proficiency!
The Osmo Reading Adventure is a customized learning experience with responsive technology that adapts to a child’s skill level. I love that it provides customized feedback to children so they can build their confidence when learning to read. The monthly subscription delivers 4 new books at just the right level for the reader.
Our Thoughts
Overall, after using the new Osmo Reading Adventure app we were happy with the graphics and educational content. My five year old daughter enjoyed how the characters interacted with her. The voice recognition technology really neat and I haven’t seen this used this way before. I thought the crystal wand was an awesome touch. My daughter loves mermaids, fairies and anything magical so naturally she thought she could now do magic with her special wand!
I think the Osmo collection as a whole has awesome educational value. We haven’t had a chance to try them all out. We have the Creative Starter Kit and the Pretend Play Ad-on Game bundle. My two girls LOVE them!
If you’re new to Osmo I recommend grabbing a Starter Kit and try it out! So far we’ve been pleased!
