The Great Toy Clean-Up Battle: A Day in the Life of a Mom

by brandiann

If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my years of motherhood, it’s that toys have a magical ability to multiply overnight. I swear, I could clean up the entire living room, and by the time I turn around, there’s another Lego lurking on the floor, waiting to ambush my foot.

Today started like any other day. I woke up to the sound of my toddler calling out for me, and by “calling,” I mean yelling at the top of her lungs like a tiny drill sergeant. The baby was already up, babbling in her crib, and the dog was pacing by the door, reminding me that he, too, needed attention.

I shuffled into the kitchen, bleary-eyed and in desperate need of coffee, only to find the aftermath of yesterday’s snack time still scattered across the counter. Goldfish crackers everywhere. How do they manage to get so far from the bowl? It’s like they’re trying to escape the inevitable crunch underfoot.

After wrangling the kids into their high chairs and managing to get some breakfast into them (and, let’s be honest, all over them), I decided it was time to tackle the mess that had taken over the living room. It looked like a toy store exploded in there. Trucks, dolls, puzzle pieces, and random socks were strewn across every surface.

I started the Great Toy Clean-Up Battle, armed with a basket in one hand and a determined toddler in the other. We made it a game: “Let’s see how fast we can pick up all the blocks!” But my daughter had other ideas. Every time I put a toy in the basket, she would pull two more out. I was beginning to feel like I was in one of those ridiculous sitcoms, except this was my real life.

By the time I finally got the living room somewhat presentable, it was time for the next round of snacks, which, of course, meant more crumbs, spills, and sticky fingers. As I cleaned up the kitchen again, I realized that the living room had magically returned to its original chaotic state. How does this keep happening?

And then it hit me. This is motherhood. It’s messy, repetitive, and sometimes feels like you’re running in circles. But it’s also filled with tiny victories, like the moment when my toddler helped me put away the last toy and gave me a proud smile. Or when my baby giggled as I wiped mashed bananas off her face, reminding me that even in the chaos, there’s so much joy.
So, here I am, exhausted but happy, knowing that the mess will return tomorrow, but so will the moments that make it all worthwhile.

And now, as I sit down with my long-awaited cup of coffee, I can’t help but smile. Because this is what being a mom is all about—finding the beauty in the chaos, one toy at a time.

As a fellow parent, I completely relate to the daily toy chaos! I’ve found that incorporating eco-friendly and educational toys, like those from Idori, not only keeps my kids engaged but also teaches them about sustainability. Their plush companions and storybooks have been a hit in our household
