Feeding Frenzy | A breastfeeding story

by brandiann

Little could have prepared me for the wave of emotions I felt when my baby daughter arrived. After what felt like a lifetime in recovery after my c-section {3 hours to be exact} I was finally able to hold my baby! What joy to hold this precious little wrinkled-skinned, soft and powdery fresh babe! What is it about that baby smell! If I could only bottle it up and keep that smell forever!

Once we got acquainted with one another, although it felt I had known her a lifetime, my little hungry baby nestled against my chest rooting for a nipple. I was strict in my orders on NO FORMULA or PACI, but of course they tried. My husband was on it like a champ and made sure they followed our demands!

I remember feeling so overwhelmed about breastfeeding and even had nightmares while I was pregnant. In my dreams I would forget to feed her – like that would ever happen LOL! Either way I was a bit anxious to start the process. To my relief, it was the most natural thing in the whole world. But hot damn, it hurt like hell. I was in for a rude awakening! Never had I felt such excruciating pain in my nipples, even the c-section paled in comparison. It felt as though someone was dragging me behind a vehicle, bare chested against the pavement.

While breastfeeding may not seem the right choice for every parent, it is the best choice for every baby.

The pins and needles sensation subsided after a few weeks, but the other challenge was the clogged milk ducts. What felt like bruises in my boobs, milk ducts complicated things. Luckily I was able to get them to go away after a few days.

This breastfeeding journey started off rough in the beginning, but now that we have an unbreakable bond that I would never change for anything in this world!

There is no substitute for mother’s milk.
