Fifty Shades of Blind Date

Chocolate, rose petals and vino. Candlelight, blindfolds and tape… what do these all have in common? Ha, sounds kinky I know, but wait. No, I am not quoting Fifty Shades of Grey! These items are the makings of a fabulous Night In, for Mommy and Daddy, made possible by the company Night in Boxes!

Have you ever gone on a Blind Date? Neither had I, until that black box arrived!

We’ve all fallen into the trap of complacency at some point. Whether it’s with a job or a relationship, there are moments in our lives we don’t put forth the effort that we should. In fact, according to Care.com, a whopping 85 percent of parents, when asked, said they wished they had taken the time to go out more.

Believe me, I get it, when a new baby comes along romance tends to take a back seat. Whether it’s the reluctancy of leaving the baby with a sitter or no nearby family to help, it’s tough. Sadly, the trials of the week and exhaustion from parenting make giving that extra oomph difficult sometimes.

What is Date Night In?

Menu & Beverages

Let me tell you, this company goes above and beyond when it comes to providing date night details. They put together a menu with beverages, an appetizer, main course and dessert. They even so much as give you a shopping list with all the items you need. Talk about amazing?!

The Menu (we mixed it up a bit)
  • Drinks: Wine/Beer Tasting or non-alcoholic Juice Tasting
  • Appetizer: Cheese and Meat Platter
  • Main Course: Sausage and Mushroom White Truffle Pizza / we opted for a different kind
  • Dessert: Panna Cotta

Date Itinerary

We started the evening by making dinner together and following the recipe guide. It was really fun making new recipes like the panna cotta! We met on the couch at promptly 8 pm to start our Date Night! Our little one sleeping peacefully in her crib and mommy and daddy were very excited to have some quality time together!

When we opened the box and saw all of the items, my husband’s eyes about popped out of his head at the sight of blindfolds and tape! We both had a great laugh! The itinerary card had a link for audio instructions for the date, and Patrick would be our guide.

We were instructed to take turns being blindfolded and to draw our idea of the perfect beach scene! This was right up our alley; not only are we both artists, but we live at the beach – HOW PERFECT! Next, we drew each other’s portraits!

Take a look at our drawings!

After drawing, Patrick told us to redraw them using voice commands. I loved that it focused on the importance of communication!

Our next activity was using the tape to create a blindfold maze! We had so much fun with this and even got a little silly! Using voice commands, we guided each other from start to finish!

Next up was a series of questions that Patrick asked us to think on. This was probably my favorite part of the date! I was surprised at the answers my husband gave to some of the questions. It was nice to take time to ask each other random questions when its so hard to make time to do that! Our typical night consists of getting the baby to sleep with only an hour or so of spare time before bedtime. Most nights are spent vegging out, watching shows, and decompressing the day away.

In case you were wondering about the cotton candy…the date ended with instructions on placing the cotton candy on an area of your body and using blindfolds to find it! I was impressed that the cotton candy was organic, as my husband and I try and purchase all organic and non-gmo foods!

The Verdict / Our Opinion

Our first date unfolded without a hitch. This momma showed up dressed to the nines! Believe me, it felt phenomenal to take time to get dressed up. When most days are spent in pjs and a messy bun – a fixed face, coiffed hair and a cute dress work wonders on this SAHM’s self confidence! We are really looking forward to next month’s box!!

This looks like such a fun box! Most couple boxes I found are sexual-oriented. But this one seems less like that!

Dang it I missed a fun theme for this month. I got the kids night in one instead. It was fun though, but the food looked so good.

I bet the kids one is so much fun! I hope to do that one one day too, when my daughter is older 🙂
